"Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also ..." Mark 1:38
God continues to bless our work for Him in our near island neighbor of Cuba. This year marks our 12th year being there preaching the Gospel, training workers and planting churches. This summer we had the opportunity to travel the entire length of the island of Cuba. For the past few years most of our work has been in the western end of the country, however we have been making contacts with believers in the central part of the country and earlier this year we started helping with several new missions. But we still had the desire to go further east. Last July we traveled and visited in several large cites in the east. In Camaguay, we are helping a preacher. This pastor had been one of our Institute students back in 95-96. He is one of the only truly independent Baptists in the east. Pray for him and his mission. We traveled on to Santiago, Cuba's second city. Here we mingled with the multitudes as they entered the city for Cuba's Independence Day and the 50th anniversary of Castro's attack on Moncada Barracks. After some time there we traveled to Guantanamo and beyond, finally standing on the eastern tip of the island. The eastern part of Cuba is much poorer than the west. There is certainly a great need to preach and plant churches all over this island. Before returning west we were able to lead some teenagers to Christ and receive their addresses so that we could follow up on them for discipleship in the future.
Mariel is a port city about 50 miles west of Havana. It is famous for the "Mariel boat lift" of 1980. At that time, Castro allowed over 200,000 Cubans to leave the island from the port of Mariel. One of our student pastors and his wife began to make contacts there and special meetings were began. Twenty-five to thirty people were attending during the start up meetings with 12 saved in the services and several through personal visits. The new mission has continued to see good results, and now has a regular meeting each week. On March 7th I baptized 13 new members of this work in the Caribbean. Pray for the pastor and his wife as they work to build up this new mission.

| NEWS ABOUT SPANISH CHURCH MINISTRY |

For me, sitting in the services of Iglesia Bautista Faro de Luz here in Jupiter is a real delight. There was a time when I had to arrive early, run the bus route, open the doors, put out the hymnals, lead the singing, make the announcements, receive the offering, read the Bible reading sing the special and then preach. Now, all I have to do, if I want to, (and I usually do) is preach. Our services have a completely Latino style, including starting a little late. Several men will participate in the song service. One begins, and leads several songs, then another comes to lead several choruses, then another for more hymns and perhaps a special. Those who receive the offering, read the Bible reading, give the welcome, and pray rotate among several others from the congregation. The song service is longer than most American services. But finally, after the last song, the preacher is called up to preach. God has blessed us. Keep praying for us!

| Project: Iglesias Bautistas del Treasure Coast |
SERVICES |
| Florida is home to nearly 3 million Spanish speaking residents. The Hispanic population here in Florida increased 70.4 % during the 90's. More than 300,000 immigrate to the US each year, over 7 million are here without legal documents.
Project "Iglesias Bautistas del Treasure Coast" (Baptist Churches of the Treasure Coast) is a bold venture in evangelism and church planting to reach the rapidly growing Hispanic population in the Treasure Coast area of southeast Florida. This area, which consists of towns and cities from Sebastian to the Palm Beaches, has recently seen a rapid growth of Hispanics, even more than areas further south in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Many of the towns have been taken by surprise and are unprepared for this rapid influx of immigrants. The fundamental churches in these areas have likewise been unprepared and the need to reach this segment of our population is unmet. Many Pentecostals, Charismatics and, of course the ever present Cults, are greedily assimilating these new immigrants as they arrive to begin their new lives. Statistics show that the majority of these immigrants were Catholics back home in their native settings, but a great percentage changes their allegiance within the first few months after entering the US. They need to be reached with the truth of the Gospel. They need to be reached by the Independent Baptists.
